Will the UPF 50+ work as well as the usual LS sleeves to lock the L'Hotellier connections?

I think the UPS 50 white will not work well on L'Hotelliers, nor is white a great color to block sun, darker colors work better, even a neutral grey.

I purchased mine from DG in Germany. You may also try the Shemp-Hirth or Schliecher dealers in the US. Many of the early fiberglass gliders used L'Hotelier connectors and the dealers should still be supporting these old gliders. The LS safety sleeve needs to be replaced every 2 years.

Referring to the TN/AD which introduced the white sleeves, they do not need to be replaced every 2 years. But they have to be checked anually for presence and retaining force. Check https://www.dg-flugzeugbau.de/download/Data/TM-LS/LS1/TM56/TM56.pdf for more info. This TN also contains information about the material used for these sleeves.

I think "white ls sleeves" are white colored plastic clips which are one method of preventing L'hotelier connections from accidentally coming loose. Wedekind sleeves , clips, or safety wire and correctly drilled holes are other methods.

Initially was the sleeve for securing the Hotellier from LS in red plastic, those was withdrawn and replaced by sleeves with a new design and material(white) according to the TN56 above. This was long time ago and there should not be any red sleevs in use today.

Wedekind sleeves are a much better bet, they are available from schleicher and DG. They do not need to replaced after2 years. Was very easy to fit them on my DG202.

I have 4 I purchased new from LS years ago, unused, still in the bag. I had a LS-1 and they were much better than the small pins. I bought 12 and have these 4 new ones left. If anyone needs them, $60. Kurt
